Oak FSC® and PEFC

Oak FSC® and PEFC

Van Biezen Eikenhout supplies oak beams and oak planks with FSC® and PEFC quality marks. Oak wood with these labels guarantees wood from sustainably managed forests.

In recent years, there has been an increasing focus on conservation and responsible forest management. We speak of sustainable and responsible forest management when the ecological, social and economic functions of the forest are taken into account in a balanced way. This not only considers the forest itself, but also the people and animals that depend on the forest.

Globally, there are a few organisations that champion sustainable forest management. The best-known of these are FSC® and PEFC. FSC® stands for Forest Stewardship Council® and PEFC stands for Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes. Both organisations have their own standards and rules, but both promote responsible forest management worldwide.

Van Biezen Wood imports and supplies oak wood with both certificates. The oak wood with PEFC comes mostly from French deciduous forests. The oak beams and oak planks with FSC mostly come from Germany, the Netherlands and Poland. Oak wood is already sustainable in terms of its lifespan, but certified oak wood is sustainable and also responsible.
